My job is secure, and my pension will probably still be there when I finally do get to retire even though it has been postponed for 5-6 years.

I am grateful for the deep love and support I receive and share with my partner of 15 years, time has only brought us closer. I am grateful for the health and well-being of loved ones, everyone is making their way in the world, nieces & nephews, brothers and sisters, my mother and father, and friends. I am grateful for the simple sentience of our 3 furry friends (our cats). I am grateful for a work life that allows me to offer services and comfort to others. I am grateful for the opportunity to take my spiritual walk even in the midst of a full-time work week. I am grateful for my co-workers who are sincere in their service to others and fun to share time with. I am grateful that so many people are taking the time to vote and for the optimism and hope in the air that at this time feels greater than the cynicism and despair. I am grateful for this beautiful day and that, at least for today, I was able to ride to work without rain. :)

Life.

Good health, a loving family both at home and at work, a reliable job, respect for my abilities, freedom to travel and discuss issues, and shortly, retirement and time to focus on many hobbies and interests that have been postponed.

Being able to walk and breathe independently. Being able to support myself and manage my finances. Being able to choose what I want to buy and how much I want to spend. Being comforted and emotionally supported by my partner. Being able to own a home and come home to a smiling dog. I am grateful for living and working in San Francisco where I can be openly gay and not face discrimination. I am also grateful for my Union and their great negotiating skills! Finally, I am grateful for being able to ignore the stupid people above me and proceed to perform the best I can at work. I hope you are all grateful for my honesty.

I am a nature-lover, and have been monitoring the progress of a family of grebes (duck-like birds) on a lake in Golden Gate Park. I discovered the six baby fluffy chicks on Labor Day. Every weekend after I would see a few of them, but young duck-like birds tend to be fodder for other predators, and I was sure at least a couple had been morsels for something else. Then yesterday, two full months later, there theyall were in the late afternoon sun--six nearly grown grebes. They have all survived, and for that, on a suddenly sunny afternoon, I felt truly grateful.

I'm grateful for having a warm safe home to return to every night.
